Fencing
Closing the garden without shutting it in
A fence does three jobs: marking the boundary, keeping out eyes and wind, and carrying a little of the character of the house. Timber, metal, PVC or bamboo. We fit all four, straight and level, on fixings made to last.
We work from southern Luxembourg up to Mersch.
Timber remains the safe choice in a garden: solid fencing for privacy, open slatted screens that let the light through, untreated larch or Douglas fir that weathers to a good grey. We build them on set posts or on base plates, with the details that make them last: the foot clear of the ground, post caps, stainless fixings.
Metal (rigid mesh, railings, gates) makes plain boundaries; dressed with a hedge or a climber, it disappears behind the planting within two seasons. PVC and composite are useful where maintenance has to be nil. Bamboo, as thick screening or planted as a hedge, brings a texture nothing else gives.
The best screen is still a living one: a light fence backed by an informal hedge does better, as the years pass, than any solid panel. And the birds agree. We like to combine the two: the structure straight away, the planting for good.
What this covers
Timber fencing
Fences, slatted screens and privacy screens in larch or Douglas fir, prepared in the workshop and built on site.
Metal fencing
Rigid mesh, railings and ready made gates, fitted straight and set firm. For a piece made to a drawing, see our metalwork.
PVC & composite fencing
Maintenance free, for practical boundaries. Fitted as carefully as everything else.
Bamboo
Thick screening or bamboo planted as a hedge: the fastest green screen in the garden.
How it works
The boundary
First of all, knowing exactly where the boundary runs: we start from the markers in place and from the land registry plan. At the slightest doubt, we advise calling in a surveyor. It costs far less than moving a fence.
The quote
Length, height, material, number of posts, gate or gateway: everything priced line by line. That is also when we tell you whether your council sets a height or a particular appearance.
Setting the posts
Posts set out to a line and bedded in concrete in holes dug below the frost line, or fixed on base plates where the ground suits. The foot of the timber stays above ground level, always.
The fitting
Panels, boards or mesh fitted once the posts have set, adjusted level and plumb. Stainless fixings, caps on the post tops, rubble taken away.
